Stella Supergirl by Isabel Sng

“Hahaha!”cackled the evil scientist, the remaining strands of white hair blowing in the strong wind. “Mine all mine!”he yelled, voice almost hoarse from shouting. His gaze fell back on the chest of gems and the scene that he made all around. Broken glass and pots with soil and damaged plants were strewn all over. People, especially children were cowering behind their parents. He thought that nobody dared to defeat him or so he thought. Little did he know that a super hero was around the corner…

“HI YA!”yelled a voice. Everybody looked up to see Stella imageSupergirl flying high above everyone. Stella Supergirl flew towards the scientist whose name was Evil Von Poison. “You have gone too far this time Evil!” shouted Stella. She swooped closer with her cape fluttering and everyone gasped as Stella’s bracelet shot out bolts of lightening. The bolts of listening sliced through the air, flying towards Evil. Evil shrieked wildly and ducked, only for the bolts to sizzle off some of Evil’s hair. Then Evil waved his hand and he counter attacked by sending a flurry of fireballs into Stella’s direction. Unlike Evil, Stella calmly flew out of the way. Slowly at first, Stella began spinning. Soon, she was all a blur. She tapped her necklace and immediately she turned invisible. “Hey! Where did that scoundrel of a Supergirl go!” demanded Evil. Suddenly, a lasso looped around him. Evil struggled and twisted, but the rope just seemed to get tighter. Stella appeared in front of Evil, just as the police closed in on Evil. They handcuffed Evil with much futile protests from him and marched him away.

Stella tapped her ring and there was a bright flash. Everything was soon back to normal again, Stella Supergirl waved farewell to the crowd who cheered for her brave act. “Goodbye everyone!” Stella Supergirl said before flying off. Peace and tranquility were returned to the people.

The Muaji by Joshua Sng

THE MUAJI

There was a huge brown heap lying down. Was it some dog poo? The shaggy ‘thing’ got up to its feet, and just like that, when its sad eyes peered at us, we  were connected. How could something so tiny compared to the other dogs of prey win our hearts so much better? Tiny was only used for a while, as when we carried her to the car to go back home, the currently 6.6kg medium weight category sumo wrestler made her way to our home and hearts.😀😍😝

Taste Before You Leap by Isabel Sng

The delicious but pungent smell filled my nose as I stepped into the restaurant with my family. We easily found a table, hastily sat down as we were famished after a long walk.  We scanned the menu and the meal of the day caught my eye.  It looked delicious: egg prata with chicken curry at the side. Without hesitation, I ordered the set meal. As I waited eagerly, I could almost could taste the scrumptious food. When the fragrant food finally arrived, I immediately grabbed my cutlery and made an unabashed jab for the prata.  I generously soaked it in the chicken curry and wolved it down.  Before I know it, the spiciness of the curry hit me. I yelped to my parents, between gulps of water, “I thought it would be delicious but it made my tongue tingle.” Looks are deceiving, we should always taste before we leap.

Burger to Die For by Joshua Sng

As I salivated over the juicy burgers, I saw, from the corner of my eye, my chance. As the man left the store, he left behind a rather sad little piece of a burger. But it would do. As I secretly gobbled down the burger, it tasted well, but it made my tongue tingle. I wondered “Where did this queer taste come from.” The next thing I knew, I was staggering to get out of the store, and by the time I had stepped, or rather, hobbled out, I collapsed in a heap with the world fading away with every second. It was truly a burger to die for.

Dead end by Joshua Sng

The tornado ripped through the whole city, destroying everything in its path. Pieces of concrete lifted by the tornado, bombarded those who could not get to shelter quick enough. But the ferocious wind just kept blowing. Hastily starting the car ignition, I took off. With quick thinking, I planned an escape route from a certain death. However, I must have made some wrong turns, because what came next was the opposite of what I dearly wanted. It was a dead end at the road, and possibly, my life. I shut my eyes, for the last time ever. Everything went black.

Adventures of Mr Jellytumbles by Isabel Sng

There once was a man called Mr Jellytumbles. When a branch broke off from the tree and dropped on the group with a soft thud, Mr Jellytumbles had such a fright, he shook like a jelly and took a tumble.  One blustery windy day, Mr Jellytumbles was walking to work but the ferocious wind started to howl.  Mr Jellytumbles tumbled and landed in a muddy puddle. Mr Jellytumbles struggled to pick himself up, took a deep breath, told himself “Keep calm and carry on” and he trudged on to work without a tumble.

Never judge a sweet by its wrapper by Isabel Sng

My tummy was grumbling. My sweet tooth was aching for something. I grabbed the sweet from the counter. I hungrily tore the wrapper open and happily popped the rainbow-colored sweet into my mouth. As I chewed it, an awful taste immediately hit my palate. It tasted of garbage! But it said ‘sweet’ on the wrapper. As quick as lightning, the sweet was out of mouth before I could say “Disgusting!” Somebody must have switched the supposedly sweet treat with some terrible tasting unidentified object. I rushed to brush my tongue and teeth. I swore I will never judge a sweet by its cover.

Bittersweet by Joshua Sng

Very tempting arrays of sweets were laid out on endless shelves. Prices ranging from a few cents to hundreds of dollars with circles and oval and all other sorts of shapes. Glancing around, it was impossible to pick out a sweet for me. When I finally came to a sweet with the words “super-duper sweetness promised!” Laying a dollar in the cashier’s hand, I popped the rather orange-looking sweet into my mouth. Immediately, an overwhelming sadness came over me. But it said “sweet on the wrapper.” Though there was sadness, the sweet somehow told me to be optimistic. What a sweet!

Silence by Joshua Sng

The silence was deafening. The feeling of it was enough to make a grown man break down into tears. The streets were quiet yet there was much going on in the other world.  I don’t think that I have much time before the monsters of the night come. Right there, it happens. In a dark brown tattered cloak, with a rather slimy hand, and the other holding a scythe, it walks up to me.  I am paralyzed and my hands turn clammy. A swift blow is all it takes for everything to go black. Evil laughter resounds in the cold night sky.

Fairy hour by Isabel Sng

It struck midnight! Too carried away at the ball, it had to dart home before it was too late. It was hard to fly because it rained. Now it’s wings were damp. “Oh dear! How am I supposed to fly home?” It headed towards the light as if it was guided by a lighthouse. Slowly but steadily, it found its way home. A house with warm lights invited it home. Just as it arrived at the door, it magically turned into a pumpkin. This will start all over again tomorrow night when the kingdom’s fairies gather for a splendid time.
